Electronic mosquito repellent is a new weapon of humanity versus the deadly diseases that mosquitoes bring. These electronic repellents are constantly undergoing change, improving in every step of the way towards perfection. There are various types of these and have been improved with killing mechanisms. These new devices do not work by just driving the mosquitoes away, but these render mosquitoes useless, unable to breed, trapping them and eventually killing them.
A wide variety of electric repellent devices have swarmed the market, and so does the comments about these products. Listing them would be beneficial so that you know the types of repellents and killers that are on the market today.
Mosquito Zappers – these devices attract and kill mosquitoes that are attracted to light. The modern bug zappers use UV light to attract insects to an electrical grid which eventually kills them. Variations of these are the electric racket and the electric flyswatter, and these variations have also evolved to the point that they are recharged by solar cells. These electric zappers are now crossed with carbon dioxide emitting tanks or Ocetonol which attracts mosquitoes. Mosquito killers from Flowtron are quite good examples of these modern zappers. Their electronic mosquito killer has a radius of 1 acre, attracting insects and making them fly to their death. Zappers are more safe compared to conventional insecticides and are much cheaper in the long run. The only drawback to zappers is that you can’t protect yourself when you are on the go.
Unltrasonic devices – these are devices that use sound to repel mosquitoes by tuning into certain frequencies that allegedly messes with a mosquito’s brain. These are claimed to alter the flying creature’s prey selection habits and breeding, though these have been deflected by scientific studies.
Plug in mosquito repellent – these plug in devices are plugged directly into electrical sockets and discharge an insecticide vapour in the air that discourages mosquitoes, or killing them altogether. Insecticide liquid or tablets are used in these. These can cause nausea or discomfort to humans through prolonged exposure to its vapours.
An Electronic mosquito repellent protects you against mosquitoes, though there are other means of protecting yourself. Topical DEETs and Plant based (herbal) products are also available in the market. DEET based products, according to studies, are very effective repellents. The larger the DEET content of a product is, the longer the repellency is. Ultrathon from 3M is a good example of DEET topicals. These are military tested and can protect you anywhere, anytime; giving you all out protection for hours. Though, DEET-based topicals are known to cause adverse effects through overuse. Always be sure to read the instructions on the label first before using these on children. If you are concerned about these effects, you may want to try plant based products. The best plant based products contain oil of lemon eucalyptus, though you may want to try others that may prove to be as effective such as those with Carvacor, Cedar oil, Citronella, Clove oil, Fennel oil, Lavender, Lemongrass, Peppermint, Pennyroyal, Rosemary, Neem oil and Celery extract.
